The Green Allotments vision is to strategically increase the provision of allotment gardens.
We do this by buying land and working with local communities who want new allotment sites.
Our model is based on community-led management of allotments by the gardeners on-site. This is called ‘devolved management’ (often referred to simply as ‘self management’).
We believe in the power of communities to manage assets and be guardians of the land.
Green Allotments is a charity registered with the Charity Commission under number 1200535. Securing allotment land within a charitable structure protects the land from development, with the additional benefit of a robust regulatory process.
We work for public good, not for profit or personal gain.
We do not create ‘mega sites’ of hundreds of allotment plots.
We do not make a profit. We are always for charity and never for profit.
We do not plan the design of a new allotment site until we have written to neighbouring homes and landowners, so that they have opportunity to share their ideas and thoughts with us.
We do not begin any work on a new allotment site without the consent of the Local Planning Authority where necessary.
